In Punjab’s Gurdaspur district on Thursday morning, four unidentified armed robbers took the family of a jeweler hostage and looted cash and gold and silver jewelery worth about Rs 3 crore. The robbers fled after committing the crime. The police have registered an FIR and started searching for the accused.
Robbers entered the house on the pretext of social media video
According to the family, the robbers entered their house at around 8.15 am on the pretext of asking if they had posted any objectionable video on social media. As soon as they entered the house, one of them took out a weapon and asked the family to hand over the cash and valuables kept in the house. The family told that all the attackers were armed.
The hands and feet of the family, including the children, were tied and tape was applied over the mouth.
The robbers tied the hands and feet of the family members and pasted tape on their mouths. During this time, two small children were also present in the family who were also not spared. Taking the keys, the robbers looted Rs 30 to 40 lakh in cash and gold and silver jewelery from the lockers. A family member said that the total value of the looted goods was around Rs 3 crore.
SSP visited the spot, assured of arrest soon
Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya visited the spot and met the family. He said that the family has been talked to and they have been assured that the robbers will be caught soon.

BJP’s Punjab unit working president Ashwini Sharma strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government over this incident and called it a frightening reflection of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
