What will happen if it rains?
India vs New Zealand final match is to be played on 8 March. If no game is played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 8, then the rule of reserve day will come into effect. In this situation the final match will be played on March 9. Let us tell you that efforts will be made to get at least a 10 overs match on the first 8th.
What if it rains even on the reserve day?
Even if rain disrupts the final match to be held at Narendra Modi Stadium on March 9, efforts will be made to conduct at least a 10-over match. In knockout matches of ICC events, at least 10 overs of play are required in each innings for results to be declared. If a few overs are played on the first day, then on the reserve day the play will start from where it stopped on the previous day.
If the reserve day is also completely washed out by rain, then both India and New Zealand will be declared joint winners. There have been very few occasions when no play has been played in the final match of an ICC event due to rain. This happened in the final of the 2002 Champions Trophy, when India and Sri Lanka were declared joint winners.
