Vinoth, this film was waiting for its certification for some time. Now, if new reports are to be believed, the process may finally move forward. Let us tell you that according to a report in Valai Pechu, the makers of ‘Jana Nayagan’ have received an email from the revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It is being said that the committee has fixed the screening of the film on March 9, 2026. It is clear that the committee will watch the film on March 9, 2026 at 2 pm. If everything goes smoothly then certification can be issued immediately after the screening. This will give the team a chance to finalize the theatrical release plan of the film.
Let us tell you that Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ was earlier planned to be released in January. Actually, it was to be released in theaters on Pongal i.e. on January 9, 2026. But, it was not released as expected. The reason for the delay was that it is still waiting for the censor certificate. Without certification from CBFC, the film cannot be released in theatres.
Got a chance due to postponement of Toxic
Recently, the makers of Yash’s ‘Toxic’ had announced a change in their release plans. ‘Toxic’ production house confirmed that ‘Toxic’ will not release on March 19, 2026, as was earlier planned. Instead, the team is now looking to release the Yash starrer on June 4, 2026. Actually, considering the current situation in Middle Eastern countries, its release date has been extended.
This postponement disappointed many fans who were eagerly waiting for the release of the film. However, this change has also created an open window in the theater calendar. This new available slot can reportedly prove to be a boon for the team of ‘Jana Nayagan’. Due to fewer major releases around that time, the film may perform better at the box office.
When can ‘Jana Nayagan’ be released?
Amidst all this, a report on the Valai Pechu YouTube channel states that the Jan Nayagan team hopes that the newly changed Censor Board committee will complete the review of the film by March 17, 2026 and issue the certification. If the process goes as per plan then the film may come out earlier than expected. Because of this, it is being said that the makers are looking at an earlier release window instead of waiting till June.
Another factor that may decide the release of the film is the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections. According to the report, if the censor approval is received on time, ‘Jana Nayagan’ may be released just a week after the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Although the official dates of the elections have not been announced yet, voting is expected to take place in the third week of April 2026. If this timeline remains intact, Vijay’s film may hit the theaters by late April or early May. However, the makers have not yet confirmed the final release date.
