Effect of war visible in Iran, Dubai has only 8 days of food left; UAE gave warning

Dubai Food Crisis: The impact of the war between Iran and Israel and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran is deepening. Now due to this, people in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) may have to face food shortage. The crisis is especially severe in Dubai. Dubai has only 8-10 days’ stock of fresh fruits and vegetables left.

It is being told that on March 7 itself its stock was left for 8 days. Iran’s decision to close the Strait of Hormuz has blocked shipping lanes in this entire area. This is causing hindrances in business. Experts say that if maritime trade does not improve, the situation will worsen.

Only 8 days stock left

According to the NBT report, analyst Shanaka Anslem Perera shared a statement from Logistics Chief Stephen Paul on X. Speaking to Swiss broadcaster SRF on March 5, Paul said that Dubai currently has ten days of fresh food, which means it has only eight days of food left by Saturday, March 7, 2026. He gave this information on the basis of supply chain data monitored by his company.

The Gulf country imports 80-90 percent of its food and beverage needs from other countries. 70 percent of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s food passes through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping corridor that has been blocked by Iran following Israeli and US attacks. Along with sea routes, air freight transportation has also been affected due to the ongoing war between Iran and Israel.

What is the government saying?

On the contrary, the UAE government and the Ministry of Finance assured the public that the country has 4-6 months of strategic reserves of essential commodities. Retailers like Lulu Group have also started using chartered cargo planes to import fresh fruits and vegetables from other countries like India to maintain supplies.
