Expressing concern over the tension with Afghanistan and Balochistan Liberation Army and the situation in the Middle East, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has urged to increase the country’s defense budget. He said that in view of the situation around the country, the way Baloch and Afghanistan have recently carried out attacks in Pakistan and the challenges to the country’s security, it is necessary to increase the defense budget.
Speaking to Pakistani news channel Sama TV, Khawaja Asif said that considering the current situation, it is necessary that we increase the defense budget so that we can be prepared for every kind of situation.
Talking about the geopolitical impact of the Middle East crisis, he said that about 20 percent of global oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. He warned, ‘Any obstruction in this path can affect the global economy.’ He emphasized that European countries are avoiding supporting America and Israel because it is not being considered good by Russia at the global level.
Khawaja Asif strongly criticized the attacks carried out by Afghanistan and said that Pakistan will not tolerate any kind of threat from terrorist groups like Fitna al-Kharij. Khawaja Asif said, ‘The current behavior of the Afghan government and its people was neither acceptable in the past, nor in the present nor in the future.’
Khawaja Asif emphasized that Pakistan has made several efforts to resolve security issues through dialogue with Afghanistan, but he described these efforts as unreliable. He said, ‘We have met them twice, yet the threats continue. The campaign should continue until the threat is completely eliminated.
He accused Afghanistan of historically supporting terrorist activities and claimed that without Afghan support, Pakistan’s military would have eliminated these groups already. The Defense Minister said, ‘It is necessary to take the current situation to its logical conclusion.’
