Big news has come for the youth who dream of becoming government doctors in the country. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification for Combined Medical Service (CMS) Examination 2026. Along with this, the online application process for this examination has also started. Candidates who want to appear in this examination can now apply online by visiting the official website of UPSC. Interested candidates have time till 31 March 2026 to apply. In such a situation, this is being considered a big opportunity for the youth who have studied medicine.

Combined Medical Services i.e. CMS examination is conducted for those candidates who want to work as doctors in government departments. Through this examination, doctors are recruited in different departments and services of the Central Government. Every year thousands of medical graduates appear in this examination. This time also it is expected that a large number of candidates will apply.

Who can apply?

Some necessary conditions have been fixed to apply for this examination. First of all, the candidate must have MBBS degree. This degree should be from a recognized institute in India. Along with this, the maximum age of the candidate should not be more than 32 years. However, age relaxation has also been given to some categories of candidates.

Reserved category will get age relaxation

According to government rules, reserved category candidates are given age relaxation. SC and ST category candidates will be given relaxation of 5 years. OBC category candidates will get 3 years relaxation. With this, more candidates from these categories will get a chance to appear in this examination.

What will be the registration fee?

While applying for this examination, candidates will also have to deposit the registration fee. General and unreserved category candidates will have to deposit Rs 200 as fees. Whereas women candidates, SC, ST and disabled category candidates have been given complete exemption from fees. That means candidates of these categories will not have to pay any fee while applying.

When will the exam be held?

UPSC has also announced the probable date of this examination. Combined Medical Services Examination will be conducted on 2 August 2026 at different examination centers in the country. Candidates will be selected for this examination on the basis of two main stages.

Selection will be done in two phases

First of all the candidates will have to give written examination. There will be a total of two papers in the written examination and the entire examination will be of 500 marks. The candidates who will be successful in the written examination will be called for the next stage i.e. interview. The candidates who perform better in both these stages will be finalized.

  • First of all the candidate has to go to the official website of UPSC.
  • After this, the registration link related to CMS exam will appear on the homepage of the website.
  • The candidate will have to click on that link and fill all the requested information carefully.
  • After this, scanned copies of the required documents will have to be uploaded and fees, if applicable, will have to be paid.

Finally, after submitting the application form, take a print out of it.
