When To See A Doctor For Ear Pain: It is often seen that people ignore the initial signals related to the ears. Many patients approach the doctor when the problem has worsened and the treatment also becomes complicated. Actually, ears not only work for hearing, but are also related to body balance, brain functioning and overall health. Therefore, it is very important to recognize the symptoms in time and get proper treatment.
Why should you not ignore?
Dr. Deepti Sinha told in her article in TOI that persistent pain or discomfort in the ear should never be ignored. If there is a feeling of heaviness, blockage in the ear or mild but persistent pain, then there can be many reasons behind it. Such as accumulation of wax in the ear, fungal or bacterial infection, middle ear infection or problem related to Eustachian tube. Especially for people who have diabetes, ear infection can be more dangerous. In such cases, the risk of a serious disease called malignant otitis externa increases, which can later spread to the bones.
Hearing ability may also be affected
Loss of hearing ability can also be an important warning sign. If you have to repeatedly ask people to repeat something, have to turn up the volume of the TV or have trouble understanding conversations in a noisy place, then you should get a hearing test done immediately. Especially the elderly should get their hearing checked every year, because high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney disease can rapidly affect their hearing ability. Sometimes this problem also occurs due to water filling in the middle ear, hole in the eardrum or other problems, which can be treated with surgery.

What kind of problem could there be?
Ringing, buzzing or strange sounds in the ears, called tinnitus, can also be a common but serious sign. This problem can be due to inner ear disorders, damage to nerves, exposure to excessive noise or problems related to blood circulation. If this problem persists, it is important to get checked by a doctor. Apart from this, dizziness, lightheadedness or loss of balance are also often associated with inner ear problems. In some conditions like vestibular neuritis, positional vertigo or labyrinthitis, the patient may suddenly complain of severe dizziness and nausea.
Water or pus coming from the ear, itching, bad smell or visible dirt can also be a sign of infection or a hole in the eardrum. Many times small toys or other objects get stuck in the ears of children, which can be dangerous if tried to remove them at home.
