The Uttar Pradesh government has nominated members in municipal councils and nagar panchayats including 17 municipal corporations of the state. Through this, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has started implementing its strategy keeping in mind the 2027 assembly elections through nomination of councilors in municipal bodies. In these nominations, the party has tried to maintain caste and regional balance, which indicates that BJP now wants to increase its influence by reworking the social equations.

These decisions, taken especially keeping in mind the backward, Dalit and minority classes, are being considered as a challenge to the PDA formula of the opposition, especially the Samajwadi Party.

What is BJP’s strategy?

At the organizational level, this exercise is not limited to social equation only, but is also a part of the strategy to activate the workers who have been waiting for a long time. Through the nomination process, the party has tried to infuse new energy among the workers, so that the election preparations can gain momentum.

According to the notification issued by the government on Monday, 10 councilors have been nominated in each municipal corporation of the state. In this way, a total of 170 councilors have been nominated in the municipal corporations. In the municipal corporations of the state, 10 councilors each have been nominated in Moradabad, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Saharanpur, Agra, Mathura-Vrindavan, Firozabad, Aligarh, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Kanpur, Jhansi, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Prayagraj and Gorakhpur. There are about 200 Municipal Councils and 545 Nagar Panchayats in the state, in which members have also been nominated. In this way a total of 2802 leaders have been nominated.
