The security wall of a pillar of the Vikramshila Bridge built on the Ganga river in Bhagalpur has been damaged and broken. After the incident, pictures of the spot have come out, due to which there is an atmosphere of concern among the local people and passers-by. This bridge is considered the lifeline of the area, hence questions are being raised about its condition.
Team of experts arrived for investigation
Bhagalpur District Magistrate Naval Kishore Chaudhary said that considering the seriousness of the matter, a team of executive engineer, superintending engineer and experts have been sent for investigation. He said that further action will be decided only after the team’s report comes. The administration is currently monitoring the situation.
According to the information, technical repair of this bridge has not been done since 2016. Recently, an attempt was made to make the bridge look new by merely painting it, but no attention was paid to its internal strength. This is believed to be the reason why this type of problem has now come to light.
It has been said by the Bridge Construction Corporation that the wall which is broken is a false wall, that is, it is a temporary structure. Officials say that such walls are not part of the main structure and necessary work will be done by removing them soon. However, people say that such incidents can be a sign of great danger in the future.
The bridge is 25 years old
Vikramshila Bridge was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Rabri Devi about 25 years ago. This approximately 4.7 kilometer long bridge connects Bhagalpur to Kosi and Simanchal region. Every day lakhs of people travel through this bridge, which further increases its importance.
This bridge is a direct means of communication for the people of Anga region and surrounding areas. People depend on this bridge for business, education and daily needs. In such a situation, the questions being raised regarding the safety of the bridge are becoming a big challenge for the administration.
