According to news agency Xinhua, Lavrov further said that America has only one principle, its own benefit always comes before international agreements. The United States has welcomed and continues to welcome Russia’s isolation from the European energy market. He emphasized that to cooperate with Russia, America will first have to respect Russia’s position.
‘European leaders are rejecting Russian energy resources’
On Friday, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that European leaders are deliberately pushing their countries into a state of crisis and energy shortage by continuously rejecting Russian energy resources. Maria Zakharova said in a post on her Telegram channel that it is not a technological disaster or a natural disaster that is creating a global crisis in the European Union, but it is the decisions of its own leaders that are simply changing the situation.
Many member countries opposed the EU’s stance
On Friday (20 March), European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed the EU’s firm stance. It clearly prohibits member states from purchasing Russian natural gas amid rising tensions in the Middle East and in the event of a serious energy crisis in Europe. However, this stance of the EU was opposed by some member countries, which are heavily dependent on Russia’s energy supply.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban earlier this month appealed to the EU to end the ban on Russian energy, warning that rising oil prices and supply disruptions threaten the region’s energy security.
