In today’s modern era, use of air conditioner (AC) to get relief from heat has become common. AC is used from home, office, mall to vehicles. AC can make you sick

The cold air of AC works to provide relief, but sometimes it becomes a cause of trouble, due to which symptoms like headache, hoarseness, cold-cough and dry skin are often seen after sitting in the air conditioner. Constant exposure to dry cold air causes difficulty in breathing, sinus discomfort and a feeling of heaviness due to changes in the flow of oxygen to the brain. Main reasons for feeling heavy due to staying in AC

  • Dehydration: AC absorbs moisture from the room, due to which the air becomes very dry. This dry air sucks moisture from the body, which causes dehydration and headache.
  • Shrinking of blood vessels: Shrinking of blood vessels, which is also called Vasoconstriction. When the body comes in contact with very cold air, the blood vessels start shrinking to keep itself warm, which increases tension in the head and brain and causes problems like headache.
  • sinus trouble: Cold and dry air dries out the mucus membranes of the nose and throat, which can cause swelling or heaviness in the sinuses. Due to this reason also problems like headache occur.
  • Decrease in oxygen levels and freshness: Due to this, staying in low temperature and closed room causes stiffness and fatigue in the muscles, due to which the head starts feeling heavy.

Ways to prevent this

Do not keep the temperature of AC too low. Keep its temperature around 24-26°C. Also, it is very important to drink water from time to time even while staying in AC. Apart from this, do not sit in AC for many hours continuously. It is also important to go out occasionally and clean the air filter of the AC regularly.
