Emergency landing of Indigo flight at Delhi airport, the plane was coming from Visakhapatnam.

There was panic at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday (28 March) morning when IndiGo flight 6E 579 declared full emergency. One engine of this Boeing 737-800 aircraft coming from Visakhapatnam (VTZ) to Delhi (DEL) had failed. However, due to the wisdom of the pilot and the promptness of the airport administration, a major accident was averted.

Due to aircraft engine failure, full emergency was declared on runway 28. At 10:39 am the plane declared full emergency. At that time, there were a total of 161 people on board the plane and the ETA i.e. the estimated time of landing was 10:52 AM. There was about 6.4 hours of fuel in the plane, which means there was no shortage of fuel.

Ambulance and medical teams standby
At the time of landing, fire engines and ambulances were deployed on the runway so that any untoward situation could be dealt with. As soon as full emergency was declared, crash fire rescue vehicles were deployed along the runway at Delhi Airport. Ambulances and medical teams were also kept on standby. There were no dangerous goods of any kind in the plane which was a reason for great relief.

According to preliminary information, the call was made due to a technical fault in the flight. All agencies were put on alert. IndiGo’s technical team is now conducting a thorough inspection of the aircraft to find out how serious the fault was.

Dangerous single engine landing
The Boeing 737-800 is a twin-engine aircraft. The pilot landed the plane on a single engine. Its training is given to every commercial pilot but this process is very sensitive and that is why in such a situation, full emergency protocol is activated. All passengers and crew members are said to be safe.
