Iran has made a big claim amid the ongoing war with America and Israel. Iran Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has said that they have shot down another American F-16 fighter jet. Even before this, Iran had claimed that it had targeted F-35 and F-15 fighter jets. However, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) rejected these claims of Iran.
Iran claimed to have shot down US fighter planes earlier also
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement on Sunday (March 22, 2026) claiming that it has shot down an American F-15 fighter plane through its advanced air defense system on the southern coast of Iran near the Strait of Hormuz. According to the report of Iran’s Fars News, the American F-15 fighter plane was targeted by the surface-to-air missile system of Iran’s Air Defense Force.
American F-35 fighter plane made emergency landing amid war
Earlier, Iran had claimed to have shot down America’s most advanced and deadly F-35 fighter jet. Iran’s government media channel had said that Iran has successfully shot down the US F-35 in the war. However, US Central Command spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins said on Thursday (March 19, 2026) that the pilot’s condition is stable after the emergency landing of the American stealth fighter jet F-35. Without giving any reason for the emergency landing of the plane, he said that the investigation into the matter is ongoing. On the other hand, Iran announced the successful shooting down of the American fighter plane.
How many American planes fell in the war with Iran?
Many American fighter jets and other aircraft have been destroyed so far in the ongoing war with Iran in the Middle East since February 28, 2026. In retaliation to the dual attack by Israel and America, Iran has claimed to have shot down several advanced stealth fighter jets of America including F-15, F-16 and F-35 and THAAD radar system. Talking about statistics, till now more than two dozen American aircraft have been shot down or damaged in this war. Out of which Iran has claimed to have shot down at least 17 planes.
