Balen Shah Government: Nepal’s new Balen government has released a revolutionary ‘100-day action plan’ late on Saturday night to free the country’s education system from the clutches of politics. Led by Prime Minister Balen Shah, the scheme aims to make educational institutions mere centers of knowledge and improve the education system as per international standards.
Complete ban on student politics
According to NepalNews report, under the action plan, the activities of student organizations associated with political parties in all schools and universities of Nepal have been immediately banned. These organizations will have to remove their offices and other structures from the educational campus within the next 60 days. The government says that now educational institutions will not be the arena of politics but will only become centers of education.
Formation of student council
Non-political mechanisms like ‘Student Council’ or ‘Voice of Students’ will be developed within the next 90 days to listen to the real problems of students in place of politics. Its objective is to make the voice of the students truly visible in the institutions.
Citizenship requirement abolished
Now the requirement of Nepalese citizenship has been abolished for studies up to graduation. The advantage of this will be that no student’s studies will be stopped due to documentary hurdles. Also, the examination results of universities will now be published on time as per the calendar set by the ministry.
ban on foreign names
Educational institutions running in the country with foreign names like Oxford, Pentagon, St. Xavier will have to change their names to original Nepali names this year. This step has been taken to nationalize education and promote local identity.
exam free childhood
Traditional examinations have been abolished for children up to class 5. Now the progress of children will be assessed through ‘Alternative Assessment System’. Its objective is to reduce examination stress among children and focus on their overall development.
End of syndicates and political interference
The Balen government believes that the delay in examination results in universities and the disruption of the academic calendar were the result of political interference. Now all the results will be published on time as per the calendar set by the Ministry. This step is a relief news for thousands of students who were forced to migrate abroad due to session delays.
