In addition, at a grand conference held in Vatican on December 7, 2024, 51 -year -old Indian pastor George Jacob Kuwakad was given the status of ‘Cardinal’ by Pope Francis.

The total number of Indian ‘cardinals’ got six from the status of Cowcad, who belongs to Archdayosis of Channassery, Kerala, strengthened the country’s representation in the Vatican. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and senior leaders and heads of churches across the country welcomed the decision with joy and pride. The Government of India also sent a delegation under the leadership of Union Minister George Kurien to attend the function. Prior to the ceremony, the Indian delegation met Pope Francis.

Pope travels to India after 2025

After this ceremony, ‘Cardinal’ Kuwakad said that Pope Francis’s visit to India will probably be after 2025. When asked about the Pope’s visit, he said that it is not clear when Francis will come to India? He told the media, “There is a possibility that he will visit after 2025, which is ‘Jubilee Year’. This year many celebrations will be held in Rome and hence the Pope is most likely to be present there. ”Also, he also said that the Pope’s visit cannot be denied in the near future. However, with the death of the Pope, his desire to travel to India remained incomplete.
