South Korea has introduced its first indigenous 4.5 generation fighter jet KF-21 Borame. This fighter jet was officially shown by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) on March 25, 2026 at its production facility in Scheon, South Gyeongsang province of the country.

According to reports of The War Zone, KF-21 is a fighter jet that can fight enemy aircraft in the air and can also attack on the ground. The main reason for making this fighter jet is to replace the old jets like F-4 and F-5. Apart from this, South Korea wants to build its own strong air force and be less dependent on other countries, especially America. KF-21 is a 4.5 generation fighter jet. This means that it is slightly smaller than fifth-generation jets such as the F-35 Lightning II, but is still quite modern and powerful. It has also been given the ability to fly stealthily to some extent.

Features of KF-21 jet

The maximum speed of the KF-21 jet is about Mach 1.8 i.e. about 2200 kilometers per hour, due to which it can fly very fast. AESA radar has been installed in it, which can detect and track enemy aircraft from very far away. This gives an edge in the fight. Talking about weapons, it can carry both air-to-air missiles and air-to-ground attack weapons. In future, there is also a plan to keep internal weapons in it, which will further increase its stealth capability. KF-21 has two engines, which gives it more power and also increases safety. If there is a problem with one engine, the other one continues to work.

Rafael’s specialty

Rafale is equipped with very advanced missile systems. It has missiles like Meteor, which can hit enemy aircraft at a distance of more than 150 kilometers. Apart from this, Scalp missile is also installed in it, which can accurately attack the ground up to a distance of about 300 kilometers. MICA missile is used in close and medium range combat. It is equipped with AESA radar, which is called RBE2-AA radar. This radar can detect the enemy from a long distance and can keep an eye on multiple targets simultaneously. Rafale also has a special system called Spectra System, which protects it from enemy radar and missiles. This gives the pilot advance warning of danger and also helps in hiding the jet. Its speed is approximately Mach 1.8 i.e. about 2200 kilometers per hour. It has two engines, which gives it more power and is also safer.

KF-21 fighter jet is eyeing many countries

South Korea claims that the performance of KF-21 is better than Rafale and Eurofighter Typhoon. South Korea is rapidly increasing the production of its fighter jets. This program was started jointly by South Korea and Indonesia, in which Indonesia had a 20 percent stake. Although his stake has been reduced due to financial problems, he is still interested in it and can become the first buyer. According to reports, many countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, Philippines and Poland are also showing interest in this fighter jet.
