Sharjeel Imam: Parole ended, met family and left for Delhi, Sharjeel Imam will surrender in Tihar this evening

The parole period of Sharjeel Imam, accused in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case, is ending on Monday. Sharjeel Imam has left for Delhi from his native village in Bihar to surrender in Tihar Jail. He is expected to reach jail by evening.

Hug from family, then left for Delhi

Before leaving his native village Kako in Jehanabad, Bihar, Sharjeel Imam hugged his family members and then left to return to Delhi. Sharjeel’s brother Muzammil Imam said that Sharjeel had got parole for 11 days and today is his last day, so Sharjeel will have to surrender before today evening.

During the parole period, Sharjeel spent time with his family and his friends. Muzammil expressed hope that he will be released further and he can spend his entire time peacefully among his family and people. He also said that he was happy when Sharjeel came out but there is pain when a person goes to jail.

Interim bail was granted for younger brother’s marriage.

Delhi’s Karkardooma Court had granted 10-day interim bail to Sharjeel Imam in the case of the alleged major conspiracy behind the 2020 North-East Delhi riots, the period of which is now ending. The court had granted interim bail to Sharjeel from March 20 to March 30 so that he could attend his younger brother’s wedding and take care of his ailing mother.

50 thousand bond, ban on media and social media

This bail was given with some strict conditions. Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai, while granting this temporary relief to Sharjeel, had directed him to furnish a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of the same amount. The court had also imposed some strict restrictions on him, including a ban on talking to the media or using social media during the period of interim bail.
