Iran War: Pakistan’s newspaper The Express Tribune has made a big claim regarding the Iran War, in which it was said that US Vice President JD Vance was ready to come to Islamabad twice for talks with Iranian leaders, but Iran decided to withdraw from the talks at the last moment. According to the report, first Iran asked for time citing internal discussions and later refused to participate in the talks.
Shock to Pakistan in peace talks
This claim came to light when Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar gave a briefing to senior journalists. Quoting a senior Pakistani official, the newspaper wrote that Pakistan was very close to hosting US-Iran talks twice in the last ten days, but both times Tehran did not send its team. The report also said that America was ready for talks, while Pakistan was disappointed with this stance.
According to the report, even before the war started, Pakistan had made diplomatic efforts at a high level. In this, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir were ready to go to Tehran to meet Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, however, this was not possible due to changing circumstances.
Iran’s refusal to negotiate
Apart from this, an important meeting held in Riyadh on March 19 was also mentioned, where the foreign ministers of 12 Muslim countries discussed the regional situation. According to the report, during this meeting, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had appealed to Turkey and Pakistan not to adopt unilateral language against Iran in the joint statement. Pakistan also supported this and said that Israel’s role should not be ignored in any statement.
This report indicates that diplomatic efforts were going on behind the scenes, but due to mutual distrust and political differences, no concrete talks have been possible so far. However, there is limited independent verification of these claims, so they need to be viewed with caution.
