Vaccination: Various types of diseases spread every day around the world, in such a situation, timely vaccination becomes very important to prevent it. In such a situation, the good thing is that the Government of India, keeping in mind the health of the people, has provided the facility of free vaccination to prevent deadly and serious diseases. So that every citizen, especially children and pregnant women, can be kept safe. This facility is mainly run under the National Health Mission (NHM) and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. What is the free vaccination programme?

Free vaccination in India is mainly done under the Universal Immunization Program (UIP). This program is part of the National Health Mission and is 100% funded by the Central Government, under which vaccines are provided free of cost in government hospitals, PHCs and Anganwadi centres.

Vaccines for which diseases are available free?

Under UIP in India, free vaccinations are available for more than 12 serious diseases at government health centers such as:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) bcg vaccine for
  • Diphtheria, PertussisDPT and Td vaccines for tetanus
  • polio Oral polio vaccine (bOPV) for measles and rubella (MR vaccine)
  • hepatitis b Hepatitis B vaccine for
  • meningitis and pneumonia Hib and PCV vaccines for
  • rotavirus diarrhea Rotavirus vaccine (RVV) for
  • Japanese encephalitis JE vaccine for
  • cervical cancer (Cervical Cancer) HPV vaccine for girls aged 9 to 14 years

After this, other vaccines are given at the scheduled time so that their immunity remains strong.

Government campaigns and initiatives

The government also runs special campaigns from time to time, such as Mission Indradhanush (IMI), Pulse Polio Programme, and HPV vaccination campaigns aimed at providing vaccination to children, adolescent girls and pregnant women who are missed by the regular programme. Through this campaign, access to vaccination is ensured even in remote and rural areas of the country.
