Sri Lanka Cricket Nuwan Tushara: On one hand, there is an earthquake in Bangladesh cricket. Sri Lanka is also not behind in controversies. Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Thushara had filed a case against Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for not getting No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in IPL 2026. Regarding Thushara’s plea, SLC has informed the Colombo District Court that it will file an objection against the petition filed by the fast bowler. The next hearing in this case will be on April 23.
What is the matter?
This whole matter is related to not getting NOC by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. To play in IPL, foreign players are required to obtain NOC from the board of their country. Fast bowler Nuwan Thushara had said that he played for RCB after getting NOC in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. But NOC was not given to him citing failure to meet the standards of the new fitness system.
Thushara said that his central contract with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has expired on March 31, 2026. Thushara said that he does not want a new contract because of his move away from international cricket. The fast bowler also told the court that he had already been informed by the board that he would not be considered for selection in the national team. In such a situation, he called it unfair to not get NOC from the board.
When will the next hearing be held?
Nuwan Thushara had told in his petition that if NOC is not received, RCB will replace him in the IPL 2026 season. He was bought by RCB in the mini auction by bidding Rs 1.60 crore. Thushara said that if he does not get NOC, he will suffer loss in terms of earnings and future opportunities. But the Sri Lanka Cricket Board will object to Thushara’s argument and the next hearing of the case will be on April 23.
