Iran on Hormuz Vessels: Big news has come to light regarding the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz amid the US-Iran ceasefire. The latest report of Russia’s government news agency ‘Tass’ states that now Iran will allow only 15 ships to pass through Hormuz in a day. This decision of Iran may affect the supply of LPG and crude oil in India. This decision of Iran to limit movement has now increased the concern of global transporters.
What does the Indian government say?
Regarding the supply of LIPI, crude oil and chemical products in the country, the Petroleum Ministry has said that the government is making efforts to fight the LIPI crisis in the country. At present, the supply of LPG gas cylinders in the country remains smooth. The ministry informed that more than 58 lakh domestic LPG cylinders are being distributed every day in the country. Not only this, the availability of commercial LPG cylinders has also been increased, which has now reached about 70 percent.
The Petroleum Ministry told the media that 6 thousand 700 tonnes of commercial LPG was sold in the country within a day, which is equivalent to approximately 3.5 lakh cylinders. Not only this, about 1.06 lakh five kg cylinders were also sold during this period.
Why is the Strait of Hormuz so important?
There is a small part of the sea between Iran and Oman, which is called ‘Strait of Hormuz’. It is like a thin strip of water, whose width is only 34 kilometers, but its importance is so much that it is considered the ‘economic vein’ of the world. This route connects the Gulf countries to the Indian Ocean. One-fifth of the crude oil supplied in the world passes through this route. Not only oil, fertilizers and other essential goods required for farming also reach the world through this sea route.
