Paying huge hospital bills is a problem for everyone. Even if someone has health insurance, it takes a lot of time. In view of this situation and for the purpose of transparency in the process, IRDAI i.e. Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has thought of implementing a new rule. This will make the claim process easier and hospitals will not be able to charge arbitrary bills. A new sub-committee has been formed for this.

Formation of new committee
IRDAI has formed a new sub-committee to stop arbitrary bills of hospitals. This sub-committee will recommend regulatory, policy and operational measures to promote innovation, wider coverage, better risk and better financial protection through health insurance. The purpose of forming this committee is to bring transparency in the process for consumers and make insurance easier for policyholders.

Objective of IRDAI?
With the formation of this committee, IRDA’s objective with the new rules is clear. They have to make the claim experience smooth for people. There is a need to improve the hospital tariffs so that they are not able to charge arbitrary fees from patients. This will also improve the digital system. People will not be cheated. Apart from this, the entire process will be done with transparency, which will increase consumer confidence.

According to experts…
Rakesh Goyal, Managing Director of Probus, says, ‘At present the biggest problem is that people feel that because they have insurance, they are being charged more money. The first task of the new committee is to correct the discrepancies in these tariffs and the network of hospitals. Its direct benefit will be that the treatment prices will be right and the billing will also be consistent.
