Women Reservation Bill: For the last two days, there was a heated debate in the Lok Sabha regarding women’s reservation. The government tried its best to get these bills passed by any means, but the opposition remained adamant and ultimately the government had to face defeat.

It was clear from the batting being done by the government that Home Minister Amit Shah himself had taken the command to pass this bill. Yesterday in Lok Sabha, PM Modi also called Akhilesh Yadav his friend. Even today Amit Shah was pointing towards convincing Akhilesh, but despite all its efforts the government could not get these bills passed.

In fact, the opposition remained adamant on its insistence and its effect was clearly visible. All the main opposition parties opposed these bills not only on the floor but also during voting. A total of 528 MPs took part in this voting, in which 298 votes were cast in favor, while 230 votes were cast against. However, the government needed two-thirds majority, i.e. 352 votes, to pass this bill, but the government could not fulfill it.
