Yesterday, after the bill related to women’s reservation failed in Parliament, PM Modi fiercely targeted many parties including Congress and TMC. Opposition parties have also retaliated on this. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee fiercely targeted BJP by posting on Instagram on Sunday. He said that it is extremely unfortunate that the Prime Minister chose to mislead the country instead of solving the issue honestly.
How many women leaders in TMC?
Mamta Banerjee said that I want to make it clear that Trinamool Congress has always been a supporter of higher political representation for women. We have the highest proportion of elected women representatives in both Parliament and State Assembly. 37.9% of our elected members in the Lok Sabha are women. We have nominated 46% women members in Rajya Sabha. The question of opposing women’s reservation does not arise and has never arisen.
Targeted regarding the delimitation process
He further said that what we are strongly opposing is the delimitation process. To fulfill its vested interests, the Modi government was conspiring to promote women by making them shields. We are strongly opposing Babasaheb Ambedkar’s attempt to change the Constitution, partition the country and grab power by manipulating political boundaries by giving more representation to BJP ruled states at the expense of other states. This is an attack on federal democracy and we will not watch it quietly.
It is deeply unfortunate that the Prime Minister chose to mislead the nation rather than address it honestly.
Let me put this on record. Trinamool Congress has always championed higher political representation for women. We have the highest proportion of female elected…

Why waited for 3 years?- Mamta Banerjee
Taking aim at the Modi government, Mamata Banerjee said that if this government was really serious about this noble cause, then why did it wait till almost 3 years after the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed on 28 September 2023? Elections are going on in many states, so why was it passed so soon? And why was it linked with delimitation? Trinamool Congress has been standing for women for decades. We will stand but we will not listen to sermons on a subject that the ruling party neither understands nor respects.
He further said that Prime Minister, next time you address the nation, show the courage to do so from the floor of Parliament. Where you are under scrutiny, challenge and accountability. What you did yesterday was cowardly, hypocritical and a double entendre. You can feel that power is slipping from your hands.
