Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has said that until the war ends completely and permanent peace is established in the region, it will maintain its control and surveillance on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iranian media, this statement came when Iran’s main military command ‘Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters’ announced on Saturday (April 18, 2026) that due to the continuation of the US naval blockade, strict control was being re-introduced on the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the report of Xinhua news agency, SNSC said that it will ask for information from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, allow them to move, charge for security and environmental services and control the movement of ships in accordance with its rules and wartime arrangements. The Council will not allow a conditional and limited reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as long as the enemy continues to seek to obstruct shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and resort to methods such as naval blockade, which would constitute a violation of the (existing two-week) cease-fire.

Importance of Strait of Hormuz
SNSC also said that a lot of goods going to American bases in West Asia reach through this Strait of Hormuz, which can become a threat to the security of Iran and the region. Furthermore, Iran said that it has received new proposals from the US, which were delivered through Pakistan during the recent visit of its army chief Asim Munir, and Iran is considering them. Iran’s negotiators have made it clear that they will not make any kind of compromise and will protect the country’s interests with all their might.
Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz
Iran started strengthening its hold on the Strait of Hormuz from February 28, when Israel and America jointly attacked Iran. After this, recently America also imposed a blockade targeting ships going to and from Iran, because peace talks in Islamabad had failed. Although on Friday Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi had said that the Strait of Hormuz would remain completely open to commercial ships during the two-week ceasefire that started on April 8, on Saturday Iran’s military command ‘Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters’ again announced that strict control over the strait was being reimposed due to the continuing US blockade.
