West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026: The first phase of assembly elections in West Bengal has been completed on Thursday (April 23, 2026) with a historic voting percentage. In the first phase of elections, more than 91.78 percent voting took place in 16 districts of the state. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has called this a historic election since independence. The people of the state are very happy with today’s elections, but amidst the Bengal elections, former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) chief Humayun Kabir has suffered a big shock.
In fact, Ajaz Ahmed Ansari, a candidate of Humayun Kabir’s Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP), who came into limelight by announcing the construction of Babri Masjid in Murshidabad, has joined hands with Trinamool Congress (TMC) amid the elections. Ajaz Ahmed Ansari was made the AJUP candidate from Metiaburuj assembly seat in Bengal, but during the first phase of elections in the state, Ajaz Ansari joined TMC in the presence of TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday (April 23, 2026).

Trinamool Congress has shared the video of Ajaz Ahmed Ansari joining the party from its official handle on social media platform X. In the video, TMC general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee is seen in an election meeting and is seen handing over the TMC flag to AJUP candidate Ajaz Ahmed Ansari. Apart from this, after Ajaz Ahmed Ansari was included in the party, Abhishek Banerjee was also seen hugging him on the stage.
