Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha cast his vote in the first phase of West Bengal assembly elections on Thursday (April 23, 2026). He said that he is casting his vote for the first time in Asansol, West Bengal. Along with this, Shatrughan Sinha described himself as ‘Bengali Babu’ after ‘Bihari Babu’.
TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha cast his vote at Ravindra Bhawan in Asansol North. He said, ‘Today I have come here for the first time to vote. Feeling very good. I am exercising my right and fulfilling my duty as a voter.
He further said, ‘I am not just a ‘Bihari Babu’, I am also a ‘Bengali Babu’ and to tell the truth, I am a Hindustani Babu. Voting is a national duty. I have always followed it and will continue to do so. Meanwhile, TMC leader Shantanu Sen made serious allegations against the Chief Election Commissioner. He said, ‘The way Gyanesh Kumar is conducting the elections, even after this if any incident happens, it is not the responsibility of Mamata Banerjee, because now the entire administration is under the control of Gyanesh Kumar.’

Talking to IANS, Shantanu Sen said, ‘Central forces are deployed in Bengal. The Election Commission changed about 400 government officials from Chief Secretary to DGP. Even after this, if anything happens, it is the responsibility of Gyanesh Kumar. His statement came on the incidents of clashes that took place at some places in West Bengal during voting. Taking aim at the BJP, Shantanu Sen said, ‘The people of Bengal have made up their mind to give a befitting reply to the anti-Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party.’

Let us tell you that in the first phase of assembly elections in West Bengal, voting is going on for 152 seats from 7 am. Till 3 pm, 78.77 percent voting was recorded. The districts where voting is taking place in this phase include Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, North and South Dinajpur and Malda of North Bengal. Voting is also taking place in Murshidabad, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, West Bardhaman and Birbhum in South Bengal.
