India’s three major oil marketing companies (OMCs) — Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) — release petrol and diesel prices every morning at 6 am based on changes in international crude oil prices and the dollar-rupee exchange rate. These prices affect everyone from a vegetable seller to an auto-rickshaw driver. In such a situation, it is important to be aware of the daily prices. However, prices have remained stable in recent times.

Will fuel prices increase?

The news of a possible increase in the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 25-28 per liter after the assembly elections being held in many states of the country is going viral these days, denying which the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) said in a post on X, “There is no such proposal under consideration of the government.”

The Government of India said on Thursday that state-owned oil companies are incurring a loss of about Rs 20 per liter on petrol and about Rs 100 per liter on diesel because despite the rise in global oil prices, pump prices have remained stable for the last four years. The ministry said there is no immediate plan to increase retail fuel rates.
