Nothing has been good for Mumbai Indians so far in IPL 2026. The team has lost 6 out of 8 matches. Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, Mumbai lost 4 consecutive matches at its home ground (Wankhede), this also never happened before in history. In the last match, Mumbai had scored a huge score of 243 runs, but even then it never seemed that the MI platoon was dominating the bowling. Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved the target with 8 balls remaining and won by 6 wickets. Know the 3 big reasons for defeat.
wrong decision after winning the toss
The Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match was held on pitch number 8 of Wankhede, this was the same pitch where RCB had scored 240 runs in the same season. Mumbai also scored 222 runs while chasing the target. In the match held on Wednesday, it was known that there would be effect of dew in the evening, batting would be easier in the second innings.
The toss fell in favor of Hardik Pandya, but he chose to bat first. Of course the pitch was suitable for batting, but keeping the dew in mind bowling should have been chosen first. Yesterday also it was seen that there was a lot of dew during the Sunrisers Hyderabad innings, the balls were missing from the bowlers’ hands.

Jasprit Bumrah could not take any wicket
Mumbai Indians depend a lot on Jasprit Bumrah, but his magic has been rarely seen this season. Bumrah also gave away 54 runs in 4 overs against SRH, but he could not take any wicket. His partner Trent Boult also proved to be expensive, he is known for taking wickets in the powerplay but no bowler took a wicket in the powerplay. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head had scored 93 runs in the powerplay, both of them made a partnership of 129 runs for the first wicket.

Missed many wicket opportunities
Travis Head played a brilliant inning of 76 runs in 30 balls, in which he hit 8 sixes and 4 fours. However, Mumbai Indians had missed many opportunities to dismiss him. In the third over, Naman Dheer dropped a head catch at deep point on the ball of Trent Boult. Naman Dheer missed another chance in the fifth over, although it was a bit difficult but if the catch had been made then Mumbai could have created pressure.
