Istanbul Earthquake Update: The Governor’s Office of Istanbul said that 151 people were injured due to incidents of nervousness and building during the 6.2 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday (23 April 2025). The office said that the injured persons are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals and their condition is fine. According to the news agency Shinhua, there is no news of anyone’s death till 3:30 pm local time.

The Governor’s Office has confirmed that no residential building has fallen in the entire city, except a building in Fatih district. According to the office, there is no disruption in energy supply, natural gas distribution, or drinking water and sewage infrastructure, which affects daily life.

People got tents in parks

People gathered in parks, school grounds and other open areas among the earthquakes. Some people put tents in the parks. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in an event organized on the occasion of National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, “Thank God that there is no problem at the moment.

‘God save our country from troubles’

“God should protect our country and our people from all kinds of plagues, disasters, accidents and troubles.” According to the Directorate of Communications, the President of Türkiye came to know about the earthquake from the Governor of Istanbul. Home Minister Ali Yralikaya said that the earthquake came at a depth of about 7 km (4.3 mi) and stayed for 13 seconds.

What did the administration announce during the day?

Earlier in the day, the disaster and emergency management Presidency announced that the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 6.92 km in Marmara Sagar in the Cylivary district in the European part of Istanbul. Earthquake killed 53000 people in 2023
