West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026: Many incidents were seen during the two-phase assembly elections in West Bengal, but in the meantime, an incident also came to light, which has strongly strengthened the responsibility of a voter towards democracy and voting. Actually, we are talking about a 104-year-old voter SK Ibrahim, resident of East Bardhaman, West Bengal, who has been casting his vote in every election held since the country’s independence and at the age of 104, he fulfilled his responsibility towards democracy by casting his vote during the second phase of elections held in Bengal on Wednesday (April 29, 2026).
However, it was not easy for 104-year-old voter SK Ibrahim to vote in the Bengal elections this time. In fact, the Election Commission had kept him under consideration due to the discrepancy in his name in the final voter list published on February 28 after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in West Bengal. This happened because in the Bengal voter list of 2002, his name was recorded as SK Ibrahim, whereas in the list of 2025, his name was recorded as Ibrahim SK, but after many days of worry, hard work and struggle, his name was finally included in the voter list of West Bengal.

Very elderly voter gets VIP treatment from Election Commission
Due to discrepancy in the names in the voter list and the process of resolving the matter, so much time passed that 104-year-old SK Ibrahim could not avail the facility given by the Election Commission to voters above 85 years of age to vote from home. On the other hand, SK Ibrahim remained adamant on fulfilling his responsibility of voting in a democracy.
Seeing his determination, the Election Commission gave him VIP treatment and provided a car and a wheelchair for him, so that he could go to his polling booth on Wednesday (April 29) and cast his vote. The Election Commission arranged for a vehicle to take 104-year-old voter SK Ibrahim from his home to the polling booth under Jamalpur assembly constituency. After this, he was made to sit on a wheelchair and entered inside the booth to vote. After which SK Ibrahim went with his son Sheikh Bagbul Islam and cast his vote.

104-year-old SK Ibrahim, resident of Jamalpur in East Bardhaman district of West Bengal, expressed happiness by casting his vote in the Assembly elections 2026. Talking to Times of India, he said that I am very happy to get the opportunity to vote. I don’t understand why my name was suddenly removed from the voter list, but I am a valid voter and was born in Batrishbigha village.
