The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has changed the venue of the final match of IPL 2026 to Ahmedabad. The final match will be played on 31 May at Narendra Modi Stadium. But the rules say that the final match is played on the home ground of the defending champion team. This means that the title match of IPL 2026 should have been held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. But what happened due to which BCCI had to shift the venue of the final match from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad? Here you will get the answer to this question.

What did BCCI say?

BCCI said in the official statement that due to some operational and logistics reasons, the playoff phase of IPL 2026 is being considered as a special case. In such a situation, playoff matches are being organized on three different grounds.

BCCI also admitted that Bengaluru should have got the hosting of the final, but the demands of some officials were outside the protocol of BCCI. Therefore the venue of the final has been changed.

Is the real reason something else?

A recent report by news agency ANI revealed that some MLAs in Karnataka had suggested that they should be kept in the VIP and VVIP categories and they should be allotted tickets for IPL matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. According to the report, this demand was creating problems regarding the venue of the final. One source even said that if the problem is not resolved, the final will be held in some other city. Now this is what has happened in reality, because the final match will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
