Assam Government Formation: Amidst the hustle and bustle of formation of a new government in Assam, a big news has come to light. Union Minister JP Nadda on Sunday announced that Himanta Biswa Sarma has been unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party in Assam. Sarma now has the overwhelming support of 102 MLAs, on the basis of which he has staked claim to form the next government in the state.
Leader elected unanimously
Addressing a press conference after the meeting of newly elected NDA MLAs in Guwahati, JP Nadda said that the legislature party meeting was organized at the BJP headquarters. Nadda said, “In today’s meeting, all the MLAs have unanimously elected Himanta Biswa Sarma as their leader through eight resolutions. Apart from this, ‘Assam Gana Parishad’ (AGP) under the leadership of Bokakhat elected MLA and party president Atul Bora has also given his full support to him.

Nadda expressed confidence that the new government will be sworn in soon after the completion of the process. He informed, “With the support of a total of 102 MLAs, we have today submitted a proposal to the Governor to form the government under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma. I am confident that after examining all the details, the Governor will invite our leader Himanta Biswa Sarma to form the government.”

Allies also got support
Apart from BJP and AGP, other regional parties have also expressed confidence in Sarma’s leadership. Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) MLA Rihon Daimary, while talking to ANI, said that his party has extended its support to Himanta Biswa Sarma. Expressing hope, Daimari said, “On behalf of the Bodoland People’s Front, we have supported Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. I have full hope that under his leadership, the state of Assam will continue to move forward on the path of development.”
