Indo-pak war 1971 operation trident: Pakistan attacked nine airports in India on 3 December 1971. After this the war started. However, this war was already decided. India’s Chief of Army Staff General Sam Manekshaw had already written a slip to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and wrote the date of December 4, in which it was written that India will wage war against Pakistan.
The three armies of India were already ready, but the role played by the Indian Navy is recorded in golden letters in history. Operation Trident, which began on 4 December, was the sea campaign of the Indian Navy, which completely demolished Pakistan’s maritime strength.
Preparations to target Karachi port
The 25th missile boat squadron was constructed to target the Karachi port. It is also called Killer Squadron ‘. It included INS Nirghat, INS Nipat, INS Veer and two Petya-Class escort ships. Commander Babaru Bhan Yadav was leading this squadron, who started an attack on Karachi from 112 km away.
Pakistan broke back
INS Nirghat destroyed Pakistan’s warship PNS Khyber. INS Nipat immersed the armed merchant ship MV Venus Challenger. INS Veer ended the PNS Muhafiz. After this, the styles missiles of INS Nipat set the Kari oil refinery on fire. Operation Trident was followed by Operation Pythan on 8 December, in which INS destruction, Trishul and Talwar submerged PNS Dhaka, severely damaged MV Haramton and MV Gulf and set fire to Kamari again.
Both these campaigns caused a loss of about $ 3 billion to Pakistan and the oil supply to its Air Force came to a standstill. Marine communication lines were cut off and the arms supply from America via Karachi was stopped.
Glorious moment for Indian Navy
For the first time in this victory of India, anti-ship missiles were used. It was technical and strategically a big jump. This moment was so glorious for the Indian Navy that ‘Naval Day’ is celebrated every year on 4 December to make it memorable. Commander Babaru Bhan Yadav was honored with the Mahavir Chakra for his valor and this action of the Indian Navy became a matter of pride for the whole nation. This maritime campaign of 1971 is not only a military action, but it is a symbol of the strategic skills and courage that not only won the war to India but also established its superiority on the sea.
