Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a landslide victory in the Haryana municipal elections on Wednesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this victory once again shows the unwavering faith of the people in the development and good governance policies of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

He said, “This victory has once again made it clear that the public has unwavering faith in the development and good governance policies being implemented by the BJP-NDA government. This victory is also a symbol of the trust of the people of Haryana on the ‘double engine’ government of the state.

Modi said, “On this occasion, I heartily congratulate all those party workers who have played an important role in this victory of BJP.”

Except Uklana, BJP registered a landslide victory in all other municipal elections.

In Uklana, a 23-year-old student won the post of Municipal Committee Chairman as an independent candidate.

The party won the post of Municipal Committee Chairman in Sampla, considered the stronghold of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda.

Congress had not fielded its candidate in Sampla for the municipal elections. However, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) contested elections in some wards, but did not get a single seat.

In the municipal elections, BJP sought votes on the issue of development, while Congress targeted BJP on issues of cleanliness, drainage and corruption.

There was a celebratory atmosphere in the BJP camp and party workers and leaders distributed sweets.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini praised BJP’s excellent performance in the municipal elections. He said that people have once again expressed their trust in the Narendra Modi-led government by agreeing to its policies and programmes.

Taking aim at Congress, Saini said that the public has once again rejected them. He said, “Congress always resorts to lies, people have understood this”.

He said that the “real face” of Congress has been exposed.

On BJP’s victory in Hooda’s stronghold Sampla, Saini said, “People no longer trust Hooda. He lies.

The Chief Minister said, “Our government is working with honesty and transparency and is fulfilling the promises made to the people.”

According to the results, BJP’s Shyamlal Bansal (71) defeated Congress candidate and former state Mahila Congress president Sudha Bhardwaj for the post of mayor in Panchkula by a margin of 36,252 votes.

For the post of mayor in Sonipat, BJP’s Rajeev Jain (61) defeated Congress candidate Kamal Diwan by 23,247 votes.

In Ambala, BJP’s Akshita Saini (32) defeated Congress candidate Kulwinder Kaur by a margin of 21,358 votes.

At present, the existing mayors of three municipal corporations of Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat are from BJP.

In Sampla Nagar Samiti, BJP’s Praveen defeated independent candidate Ankit by 687 votes.

In Dharuhera, BJP’s Satyanarayan alias Ajay Jangra won against independent candidate Babu Lal by 6,236 votes.

However, in Uklana, BJP candidate Nikita Goyal lost to independent candidate Reema Soni by 2,806 votes.

When asked about top BJP leaders campaigning for Nikita, Soni said, “I had the support of the people of Uklana. I thank him for making me victorious.

Soni said, “I come from a simple family, and I want to express my gratitude to all the people who supported me.” Before contesting the elections, Soni, a graduate, was preparing for competitive exams.

Meanwhile, in Rewari Municipal Council, BJP’s Vineeta Pippal defeated Congress’s Niharika by 21,445 votes. In Ambala, BJP won 16 wards, three wards went to Congress, while independent candidates won in one ward.

In Sonipat, BJP won 17 wards, while Congress won five wards. In some wards, Congress candidates lagged behind even the independent candidates.

In Panchkula Municipal Corporation, BJP won in 17 wards, independent candidates won in two wards, while Congress won only one ward.

After winning the post of mayor in Panchkula, BJP’s Shyamlal Bansal said that he will try to live up to the expectations of the people.

BJP Haryana unit president Mohan Lal Badoli thanked the voters for reposing their trust in the party. He said that BJP’s victory in Sampla, considered Hooda’s stronghold, is a clear sign of rejection towards Congress.
