After the decision regarding hijab in Karnataka, the discussion on school dress code has intensified across the country. The question is arising whether in other countries also there are such strict rules regarding dress in schools? Especially what children are required to wear in schools in Pakistan and which clothes are prohibited.
According to reports, salwar kameez has been made the uniform in most of the government schools of Pakistan. Dupatta along with salwar kameez is considered essential for girls, while formal shirt and pants are mandatory for boys. Many schools also have fixed colors, such as grey, white or blue.
In the year 2025, an order was issued in Punjab province. In which jeans, T-shirts and tight clothes were banned in schools. It was clearly said that school is a place for education, not for showing fashion.
After this order, it was made mandatory to wear traditional and loose clothes in government and many private schools. At the same time, dupatta or headscarf is common in Pakistan. Being a Muslim majority country, girls in many schools wear it as a part of their uniform.

Here in India, the Karnataka government recently took a big decision and withdrew the order of 2022, in which there was talk of banning hijab in the classroom. The new order states that uniform will remain mandatory, but limited religious and traditional symbols like hijab, sacred thread, Rudraksha can be worn with it.
What can students wear?
A major change has been made regarding the dress code in Karnataka. The Congress government in the state has canceled the order issued by the BJP government in 2022, which allowed ban on hijab in the classroom. Under the new decision, now school and college students will be able to wear faith-related symbols like hijab, sacred thread, turban, Shiv Mala and Rudraksh along with uniform.
To whom will it apply?
In the new order issued by the government, it has been made clear that this rule will apply to all government, aided and private educational institutions of the state. Although uniforms will remain required as before, limited community or faith-based symbols will be permitted.
