The Indian team will play a Test and 3 ODI series with Afghanistan next month. On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Team India for the Test and ODI series. Especially a surprising change was seen in the Test squad, because Rishabh Pant is no longer the vice-captain. KL Rahul has been made the new vice-captain.
Shubman Gill remains the captain of the Test team, but Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar gave a big statement on the sudden removal of Rishabh Pant from the vice-captaincy. According to Agarkar, the selection committee wants Rishabh Pant to concentrate on his game without any pressure.
Why was the vice-captaincy taken away from Rishabh Pant?
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said in the press conference after the announcement of the Indian squad, “Rishabh Pant is an excellent Test player in the Test format. He is not a part of the ODI squad right now. We want Rishabh to become the same excellent Test player that he has always been. I don’t think there is any concern about his place in the Test team.”
Rishabh Pant has not got a place in Team India for the ODI series against Afghanistan. Regarding this also, Ajit Agarkar made it clear that at present the ODI team is moving in a new direction, in which two new options for wicketkeeper have been kept. KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan have been selected as wicketkeepers in the ODI team.
Indian squad for ODI series against Afghanistan: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey.
