It is very important for the candidates going to appear in UPSC Prelims 2026 examination to follow the exam day guidelines. Every year many candidates face problems due to small mistakes. In such a situation, it is important to be fully prepared on the exam day regarding time, documents, dress code and rules of the examination hall. This time the UPSC Prelims exam will be held on 24 May 2026 and the Commission has made it clear that those who violate the rules will not be allowed to enter the examination centre.

Arriving late may prove costly

UPSC Prelims 2026 exam will be conducted in two shifts. General Studies paper will start at 9:30 am while CSAT will start at 2:30 pm. According to the Commission, the gate of the examination center will be closed after 9 am and 2 pm. After this no candidate will be given entry. In such a situation, candidates have been advised to reach the center at least 45 minutes before so that the process of biometric checking and frisking can be completed on time.

Entry will not be allowed without these documents

It will be mandatory for the candidates to take the print copy of UPSC Admit Card 2026 and original photo ID to the examination centre. Any one document like Aadhar Card, Voter ID, PAN Card, Passport or Driving License will be valid. If the photograph on the admit card is not clear then it will be necessary to carry two passport size photographs. The Commission has clearly said that photo copy or digital ID will not be accepted.

Carrying mobile and smartwatch can become a problem

There will be a complete ban on mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, earphones and any electronic items in the UPSC examination centre. Mobile phones will not be allowed inside even if they are switched off. Apart from this, books, notes, bags and calculators will also not be taken into the examination hall. If a candidate is caught with any prohibited item, he/she may be debarred from the examination.

Do not make this mistake while filling OMR sheet

OMR sheet is the most important document in UPSC Prelims exam. Candidates will have to use only black ballpoint pen. Special care needs to be taken while filling roll number and booklet series because if wrong information is filled, the copy will not be checked. Use of whitener, pencil or correction fluid will be completely prohibited.

Wear simple and comfortable clothes on the day of examination

Although UPSC has not issued any official dress code, candidates have been advised to wear light and comfortable clothes. Avoid wearing heavy jewellery, clothes with big pockets and thick-soled shoes as security checking can take more time. Wearing simple clothes makes the entry process easier.
