The Israeli Army Chief has said that the army is fully prepared to resume military action against Iran if needed. This statement has come at a time when there have been reports of some progress in talks between America and Iran. The Israeli Army said in a statement that Army Chief General Ayal Zamir said this while reviewing the security situation in the Northern Command on Sunday, May 24, 2026. Zamir said the Israeli military is “ready to immediately resume military operations on a large scale.” He said that the army’s goal is to further weaken Iran’s capabilities. He also said that the Army will maintain full preparedness and flexibility until needed.

According to the report of Xinhua News Agency, this statement has come at a time when talks are going on between America and Iran to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, differences still remain between the two countries regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Amidst these developments, the possibility of a meeting of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet was also expressed on Sunday evening. Army Chief Zamir also said that the Israeli army is continuously taking action against Hezbollah in Lebanon. According to him, the army is targeting Hezbollah at every level. A ceasefire was announced between Israel and Lebanon in April, but despite this the Israeli army has not yet completely withdrawn from southern Lebanon. Israel says that it is carrying out daily attacks targeting Hezbollah positions and fighters.

‘It is necessary to eliminate Iran’s nuclear threat’

Prime Minister Netanyahu said on Sunday, May 24, 2026, that he and US President Donald Trump have agreed that in any final agreement related to Iran, it will be necessary to completely eliminate the nuclear threat. Netanyahu wrote on the social media platform He also expressed gratitude to Trump for his “unwavering commitment” to Israel’s security. Netanyahu said that during operations such as “Operation Roaring Lion” and “Epic Fury”, US and Israeli forces together faced the Iranian threat. Netanyahu said that he and Trump are of the opinion that any final agreement with Iran should completely eliminate its nuclear threat. This should include closing Iran’s nuclear enrichment centers and removing the enriched nuclear material from the country.
