LPG Cylinder Price Today on June 7: The common man across the country again got a big shock when government fuel companies increased the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder by Rs 29. This means that common consumers across India will once again have to pay more for cooking gas.
After this increase in prices, its price in Delhi has increased from Rs 913 to Rs 942 per cylinder. The new prices have come into effect from June 7. This increase in prices has happened just three months after the last price increase. Last March 7, the prices of domestic LPG cylinders were increased by Rs 60. Now with another increase, customers will have to spend more every month for an important household item.

Why was the price increased?
- The ongoing tension in the Middle East has caused damage to the global oil and gas supply chain. This has affected international benchmark prices.
- Government oil companies like Indian Oil (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) were selling domestic gas below cost for a long time. According to sources, this increase has been made to partially compensate for their under-recovery.
- Earlier on June 1, the price of commercial cylinder was increased by Rs 42. This was increased by Rs 993 in May also. Just six days after it became expensive in June, this burden has now been passed on to domestic consumers as well.
What is the stance of the government?
At a briefing between ministries on Thursday, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said the government has taken several steps to ensure adequate availability of LPG, including increasing domestic production and ensuring imports.
Meanwhile, while answering media questions, Sharma said, “As far as ‘under-recovery’ (difference between cost and selling price) on domestic cooking LPG cylinder is concerned, it is still in the range of around Rs 700.”
Sharma cited several reasons for the recent decline in LPG demand, including lower consumption by commercial and industrial users, better booking cycles and technology-based delivery authentication. “The decline has come because commercial and industrial LPG consumption has come down and the second reason is the booking period which we have managed – i.e. 25 days and 45 days and the third reason is related to DAC (delivery authentication code),” he said.
