The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced Team India for the T20 series between Ireland and England. Along with this, the board also announced the Asian Games team. The biggest thing in this was that Shreyas Iyer was appointed the captain of the Indian T20 team. Not only was the captaincy taken away from Suryakumar Yadav, he was also dropped from the team. Shreyas Iyer’s first reaction after getting the captaincy of India has come to light.
After becoming the captain of India’s T20 team, Shreyas Iyer said that he has liked facing challenges since childhood. He further said that getting the captaincy of the national team does not mean that he will have to change his personality. Iyer said that he wants to remain the same person who has made his mark playing in the extremely competitive cricket environment of Mumbai.
Shreyas Iyer said at an event, “I don’t need to change my personality. I have to remain the same person I was before. I will not try to be like someone else or live under someone’s tutelage. I have always liked challenges. The level of cricket in Mumbai is very high and the competition is also very tough. Every other child there dreams of representing Mumbai.”
Iyer said that his thinking has always been to win. He said, my approach has always been to win every challenge in front of me. Learning and winning are important in their own right, but enjoying the game and developing a competitive spirit takes you to a different level. When you get such responsibility you want to accept it. At present, this role of captain is a big challenge for me.
