US President Donald Trump has asked Israel and Iran to stop attacks for peace in the Middle East. Trump posted on Truth Social and wrote that Israel and Iran should immediately stop firing on each other. Trump’s statement comes at a time when a report a day earlier (June 7, 2026) had claimed that Trump had urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to respond to the missile attacks by Iran. Trump had said that this would jeopardize the negotiations for a peace agreement to end the three-month-long conflict.
Trump insisted on talks with Iran
American media outlet ‘Axios’ said in its news that after Iran fired missiles at Israel on Sunday, Trump spoke to Netanyahu so that the peace agreement would not be affected by the renewed tension between the two countries. Trump had also urged Iran to return to the negotiating table.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said, “We are very close to an agreement. I think a peace agreement can be signed by Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.” He also gave a message to Iran, saying, “You fired your missiles, now that’s enough. Return to the negotiating table and reach a compromise.”
Israel will avoid retaliatory action: Trump
Trump claimed that the Iranian attacks did not cause any major damage and expressed hope that Israel would avoid retaliation. He said, “If Bibi (Netanyahu) attacks again, this trend will continue, as has been happening for the last several decades.” While talking to ‘Financial Times’, Trump said that whatever agreement America makes with Iran, Netanyahu will have to accept it. Trump said of Netanyahu, “He will have no choice.”
Trump also criticized Israel’s attacks on Lebanon’s capital Beirut on Sunday (June 7, 2026) and said he was “not happy” with it. ‘Axios’ quoted an American official as saying that Trump told Netanyahu on the phone to wait for some time because an agreement was about to be reached.
