- Domestic LPG cylinder became costlier by Rs 29 per unit.
- This is the second increase in three months, companies are in loss.
- The customer is still getting huge indirect subsidy.
LPG Price Today on June 10: In India, domestic LPG cylinder prices have been increased by Rs 29 per unit from June 7, taking the price of a 14.2-kg cooking gas cylinder to Rs 942 in Delhi and Rs 968 in Kolkata. This is the second time in less than three months that prices have been increased as oil marketing companies are incurring huge losses on the sale of every cylinder.
Earlier on March 7, the price of cylinder was increased by Rs 60. Overall, since the start of the war in Iran, the price of domestic cooking gas has increased by a total of Rs 89. Despite these continuous increases, the government says that consumers of all categories are still receiving huge subsidies compared to the actual cost of supply.

Public is getting indirect subsidy
In a press briefing held between the ministries on Monday, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Praveen Mal Khanuja said that the change of Rs 29 should be seen in the context of the huge indirect subsidy that the customers are continuously getting.
Khanuja said, “Whether I am a Ujjwala customer or a non-Ujjwala customer, I am getting a cylinder worth Rs 1600 for Rs 942, even if I am a non-Ujjwala customer. So, this is also an indirect subsidy for the customer. Apart from this, Ujjwala customers get Rs 300 more, so overall if you see, they are getting a benefit of Rs 1000. Non-Ujjwala customers are also getting the benefit of Rs 700 per cylinder.”
The actual price of a 14.2 kg cylinder based on the Saudi contract price is currently more than Rs 1600, making the difference between the market rate and the price received by the customer huge by any standard.
