The new BJP government in West Bengal led by Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari has finally divided the departments among the ministers. 10 days after the first cabinet expansion on June 1, the state government made the official announcement of assigning their portfolios to 35 new ministers. The speculations that have been going on for a long time have now come to an end.
Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari kept important departments with himself
Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari has kept many important departments like Home, Hill Affairs, Information and Culture, Electricity, Land and Land Revenue, Personnel and Administrative Reforms with himself.
Finance to Swapan Dasgupta, Industry department to Tapas Rai
Senior BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta has been given the responsibility of the finance department. Meanwhile, senior MLA Tapas Rai, who left Trinamool Congress and joined BJP, has been given the charge of Industry and Commerce Department.
Health Department to Dr. Shardwat Mukherjee
Senior doctor and first-time MLA from Vidhannagar, Dr. Shardwat Mukherjee has been given the responsibility of Health and Family Welfare Department. Whereas Noapara MLA Arjun Singh has been assigned the Transport and Labor Department.
Education department divided into two parts
The government has again divided the education department into two parts. Higher education, technical education and skill development department has been given to Jagannath Chatterjee, while school education department has been given to Deepak Burman. Deepak Burman has also got the responsibility of Housing and MSME Department.
The Government of West Bengal has issued an official notification reallocating ministerial portfolios across its cabinet, signaling a significant reorganization of state administration.

New responsibilities in agriculture, tourism and forest departments also
Doodh Kumar Mandal has been given the agriculture department. Shankar Ghosh has been given the responsibility of Parliamentary Affairs and Tourism Department, while Manoj Oraon has been given the responsibility of Forest and Environment Department.
PHE, PWD and other departments also allocated
Dr. Ajay Kumar Poddar has got the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Public Works (PWD) department. Gaurishankar Ghosh has been given the responsibility of Backward Welfare, Mass Education Extension and Library Services Department, while Arup Kumar Das has got the responsibility of Irrigation and Water Resources Department.
Women and Child Development Department Malti Rava Rai
Minister of State (Independent Charge) Dr. Indranil Khan has been given the responsibility of Sports and Youth Department. Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department has been taken back from Cabinet Minister Agnimitra Pal and this responsibility has been handed over to Malti Rava Rai. Malati Rava Rai has also been given the departments of self-help groups, self-employment and program monitoring.
Speculation regarding departments ended after 10 days
In the assembly elections on May 4, BJP formed the government by winning 207 out of 294 seats. On May 9, five ministers including Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari took oath, while on June 1, 35 new ministers were included in the first cabinet expansion. The ongoing discussions regarding division of departments have now come to an end with the official announcement.
