Australia has made changes to the squad for the 3-match T20 series against Bangladesh, they have included leg-spinning all-rounder Nikhil Chaudhary as a replacement for Travis Head. Nikhil has been selected in the national team for the first time. The special thing is that he still does not have permanent citizenship of Australia, he had gone there in 2020 and got stuck there after the Covid outbreak and then started living there. He was born in Delhi, the capital of India.
Nikhil Chaudhary was born on 4 May 1996 in Delhi. He has played for Punjab in domestic. Between 2017-19, he played 14 matches for Punjab. He has played 12 matches in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and 2 matches in Vijay Hazare Trophy. When he went to Australia in 2020, he got stuck there.
Nikhil Chaudhary’s fate took him to Australia. He went to Australia to meet his uncle in 2020. His uncle lives in Queensland, when Nikhil went there, Australia closed its international borders due to the Corona epidemic. Chaudhary had to stay there, he currently has a temporary visa, which is valid till 2027.

How did you get a place in the national team if you did not have citizenship?
Nikhil Chaudhary does not yet have permanent residency or citizenship of Australia. But under ICC rules, he is eligible to play for the national team for Australia because he has been living there for more than 5 years, regardless of whether he is a citizen of that country or not.

Playing for Hobart Hurricanes, Nikhil Chaudhary scored 307 runs in 11 innings in the Big Bash League 2025-26, although he could not do much in bowling. He bowled in 4 matches, in which he could not take any wicket.
After the ODI series on Bangladesh tour, Australia will play a 3-match T20 series. The first match will be played on 17 June, the second on 19 June and the third on 21 June. All three matches will start at 1:30 pm Indian time.
