  • Calling upon all parties to unite for election integrity.

One of the main issues raised by AIMIM Chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi is related to the use of election data collected during the earlier mapping process. Owaisi argued that voters whose information has already been successfully matched should not be asked for the same information again during the door-to-door collection process.

According to his suggestion, the already mapped data available with the election officials can be included in the counting forms, which will reduce confusion among voters and also reduce the administrative burden on booth level officials.

Concern expressed over accessibility of language in the form

The AIMIM chief also objected to the counting forms being available only in Telugu. He demanded that the forms be made available in English and Urdu as well, as Urdu is the second official language of Telangana and a large section of the population feels more comfortable reading and writing in English or Urdu. He argued that language accessibility is necessary to ensure greater participation and prevent unnecessary mistakes during the verification process.

Discrepancies may result from old data-entry mistakes

Another major concern is related to the identification of so-called discrepancies in the electoral records. Owaisi questioned the criteria under which voters can be flagged due to difference in spelling, age difference within families, large family size or small differences in birth records of siblings.

He argued that many such discrepancies could be due to past data-entry mistakes and that a voter’s eligibility should not automatically be doubted on the basis of these. According to him, citizens should not risk being left out of the list due to mistakes made during earlier electoral processes.

What is the problem regarding documents for verification?

Owaisi further demanded that additional documents like PAN card, driving license and food security card should also be considered valid for the purpose of verification. He said some of the documents required by election officials are either not issued in Telangana or are not applicable in the state, leaving voters with less practical options to prove their identity.

Called for unity of all political parties

Emphasizing that voting is the most important democratic right for common citizens, Owaisi called on all political parties to actively engage on the issue. He argued that the purpose of this process should be to strengthen electoral integrity. It should also ensure that no genuine voter loses the opportunity to participate in the democratic process due to technical, procedural or administrative shortcomings.
