Odisha government has taken a big step towards making education the right of every child. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that now education from Kindergarten (KG) to Post Graduation (PG) will be provided free in the state. The government claims that Odisha is going to become the first state in the country to implement such a comprehensive and completely free education system.
The Chief Minister made this announcement in a press conference organized on the occasion of completion of two years of his government. He said that no student’s education should stop just because of lack of money. Every child should get equal opportunity to progress and the government is working in this direction.
Students from poor families will get the biggest benefits
The Chief Minister said that children from economically weaker families will get the most benefit from this scheme. Many times talented students are not able to pursue higher education just because of fees and expenses of education. After the implementation of the new system, such students will get great relief. The government believes that free education will improve the level of education in the state and more and more youth will be able to access colleges and universities. This will not only increase the scope of education but will also increase employment opportunities in future.
121 schemes started in two years
Referring to the achievements of his government, the Chief Minister said that in the last two years the state government has started 121 new development and public welfare schemes. These include many schemes related to education, women empowerment, poor welfare and basic facilities. He said that the aim of the government is not just to start schemes, but to implement them on the ground and provide benefits to the people. Free education scheme is also a part of this thinking.
