A big step has been taken towards making the governance system in Uttarakhand more transparent and digital. ‘Devbhoomi Family Act’ has been implemented in the state, under which now a unique family ID will be provided to every family. The objective of this initiative is to prepare integrated and verified data of all the families of the state, so that the benefits of government schemes can easily reach the right people.

Under this new system, every family will be given a unique identification number, which will serve as the digital identity of that family. Important information related to all the family members will be recorded in this ID, such as name, age, Aadhaar related information, socio-economic status, education and employment etc.

The government believes that this step will bring transparency in the implementation of schemes and stop fake beneficiaries. Till now, there have been complaints of duplicate or ineligible people getting benefits in many schemes, but now with the creation of an integrated database, it will be possible to control such irregularities. One special thing about this Act is that women have been given priority in the identity of the family. According to the rules, the senior most woman of the family aged 18 years or more will be considered the head of the family. This is also being considered an important step towards women empowerment.

Devbhoomi Family ID will be linked to various government schemes. With this, eligible families will not need to submit documents again and again to avail the benefits of the schemes. Information and benefits of all the schemes can be obtained through a single ID. Under this scheme, the government is preparing a comprehensive digital database of the entire state, which will include information about families in both rural and urban areas. This will speed up administrative work and beneficiaries can be identified more accurately.

It is being told that this system has been developed on the lines of Haryana’s ‘Parivar Pehchan Patra’ scheme, where many services are provided to the citizens through a single ID. Overall, the ‘Devbhoomi Family Act’ is being considered an important step towards strengthening digital governance in the state and making government schemes more effective. In the coming time, it is expected that along with providing facilities to the common people, the administrative system will also become more accessible and transparent.
