World’s First Website: Today there are abundance of websites on the internet. Every company, university, airline, government department and even people themselves are using their personal websites, but it was not always like this. The journey of the website started only a few years ago. The world’s first website appeared on 6 August 1991. Today the entire form of the website has changed and now photos, videos and other types of content are being used, but the first website was not like this. Its entire content was in text and according to today’s standards it was a very simple website.
Who created the first website?
British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee created the world’s first website and named it info.cern.ch. It was launched at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, and contained information from the World Wide Web project. Information about creating web pages and hypertext was given on this website. After some time, this website disappeared due to non-archiving. Later in 2013, CERN started a project to restore this website and this website is live today.
The journey started in 1989
The world’s first website went live in 1991, but its journey had started two years earlier. Actually, at that time there was no way to share information between different devices. To solve this problem, in 1989, Berners-Lee presented an idea to his manager. He said that he wants to create an information management system, which will connect documents on computers connected to the Internet with the help of hypertext. Initially this idea was rejected by his manager. This year, Berners-Lee again approached his manager with a new idea and got the green signal. After two years in 1991, this project was ready. Lee had prepared the HTML, HTTP and URLs etc. required to create the website and all this work was done on the NeXT computer prepared by Steve Jobs.
What condition is this website in today?
The world’s first website is still live. If you search info.cern.ch on Google, you will see four options. By clicking on the first option you can visit the world’s first website. On this page you will also get information about the beginning of the web.
