Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has called Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee for the meeting. The Speaker has given Banerjee an appointment on June 19. Om Birla wants him (Abhishek Banerjee) to present his stand on the rebellion issue in the party and clarify the situation.
Rebel Trinamool MPs had recently announced their merger with the North-Eastern political party Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). Let us tell you that this party is a registered unrecognized party of Tripura, which was formed in 2022. In the 2023 Tripura Assembly elections, this party had fielded its candidates on 2 seats and the deposits of both the candidates were confiscated.
After the crushing defeat at the hands of BJP in the West Bengal Assembly elections, a period of rebellion continues in Mamata Banerjee’s TMC. The situation is that the party is now on the verge of being torn into two. Trinamool, which once played a strong role in the opposition with 40 MPs in both the Houses of Parliament, is now facing the crisis of its existence.
Rebel MP met Bhupendra Yadav
The major rebellion in Trinamool Congress has sparked a new debate in national politics. Out of Mamata’s 28 Lok Sabha MPs, 20 MPs separated and announced their merger with the Tripura party. Other MPs, led by rebel TMC MP Shatabdi Roy, met BJP leader and party’s election in-charge in West Bengal Bhupendra Yadav before meeting the Lok Sabha Speaker.

Let us tell you that last Thursday, Prakash Chik Baraik and Koel Mallik resigned from the membership of Rajya Sabha. Before Baraik and Koel Mallik, Sukhendu Shekhar Roy and woman MP Sushmita Dev elected from Bengal have also resigned from the post of MP. After leaving the post, Sukhendu Shekhar had raised serious questions on the tenure of Trinamool and said that he had decided to leave the party only after the rape and murder case in RG Kar Hospital.
